About Stratford Baptist
Our Beliefs
We believe that the Bible was written by men divinely inspired by God, and that it is an unerring guide for the life and practice of the Christian (Num. 23:19; 2 Sam. 7:28; Matt. 1:22; 4:4; 2 Tim. 3:16; 19:4-5; Heb. 1:1-2; 2 Pet. 1:20-21).
We believe that there is one living and true God. Maker and Ruler of the Universe, who seeks fellow- ship with His earthly children. In the Godhead are three persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, with dis- tinct but harmonious offices (Gen. 1:1; Exod. 15:11; Deut. 6:4; Job 1:7-10; Isa. 46:10; Matt. 3:17; John 17:11; Rom. 8:28; Eph. 1:11; 3:10-11; Tim. 1:9).
We believe that man was created in holiness, and by voluntary transgression fell from that holy estate, in consequence of which all mankind are sinners, not by choice, and therefore are under God’s just condemnation to Hell in the natural estate (Gen. 1:26-27; 5:1; 9:6; Rom. 1:8; 3:12; 5:10, 12-14; 1 Cor. 11:7; 15:22; Eph. 2:3; 1 Tim. 2:13-14).
We believe there is one way to salvation for sinful mankind, through the redemption of Christ on the Cross, who, taking on our nature, although sinless through the virgin Birth, died in our stead so that through God’s Grace and our personal acceptance in faith, we are born again and look forward to Heaven where God eternally abides (Isa. 9:6; Jer. 23:6; Matt. 1:20-21; 16:18; Luke 24:5; Acts 1:6-11; 2:36; Gal. 4:4-5; Eph. 1:20; Col. 3:1; 1 Tim. 3:16; Heb. 2:17; 1 Pet. 3:22).
We believe that all Christians are under obligation to seek spiritual growth, to be filled with the Holy Spirit, to exercise whatever spiritual gifts the Holy Spirit may give, and to become more Christ-like in conduct and thought as time passes. This growth includes a study of the Bible and Witness by word and deed (Deut. 6:5; Ezek. 36:25-27; John 16:8, 14; 1 Cor. 2:14; Eph. 2:5; 1Thess. 1:4-5; 2 Thess. 2:13; Titus 3:5; 1 Pet. 1:15).
We believe that a local Church is the congregation of believers who are part of the one Universal Church, of which Christ is the Head, and that its du- ties include the preaching of the Gospel, the study of God’s Word, the observance of the ordinance of Baptism by immersion, symbolizing both Death and Resurrection of our Lord and the New Birth of the believer and the Lord’s Redemptive Work on Calvary in which all believers partake in unity and equality (Matt. 16:18; 26:26-29; 28:18-20; John 6:55-56; Acts 2:38; 8:39; 16:34; Rom. 6:3-4; 1 Cor. 10:16; 11:29- 30; Col. 2:12; Heb. 12:28).
We believe in the visible return of Christ, who came to perfect both Christians’ bodies as well as the Earth and Heavens at His return; at which time, He will judge all Mankind, separate out believers for eternal existence in Heaven with God and non-believers for endless punishment in Hell (Matt. 24:30; 25:31; 26:64; Acts 1:1; Rom. 13:11-14; 1 Thess. 5:1-11; 2 Thess. 1:6-8; 2 Tim. 4:8; 2 Tim. 4:8; Heb. 9:28; Titus 2:14; James 5:8-9; 2 Pet. 3:10-14; Rev. 1:7; 3:3; 20:1- 10).
We believe that Marriage unites one man and one woman in a lifetime commitment to each other. Marriage provides for intimate companionship, pure sexual expression, and procreation and reflects the relationship of the Lord Jesus Christ and the Church. Husbands and wives should mutually submit to one another, out of reverence for Christ, and place the others interests above their own; husbands should love their wives as Christ loves the Church; and wives should submit to their husbands as the Church submits to Christ (Gen. 1:28; 2:23-25; Prov. 5:15-19; Matt. 19:4- 6; 1 Cor. 7:1-5; Eph. 5:21; Phil. 2:1-4).
